Apple seems to have found a way to get back at Motorola. The company filed two lawsuits against Motorola regarding patent infringement.
Earlier this month, Motorola sued the famous Apple “alleging that Apple’s iPhone, iPad, iTouch and certain Mac computers infringe Motorola patents.” The eight complaints by Motorola contain references to 18…yes, 18 patents.
“The Motorola patents include wireless communication technologies, such as WCDMA (3G), GPRS, 802.11 and antenna design, and key smartphone technologies including wireless email, proximity sensing, software application management, location-based services and multi-device synchronization.”
Apple had already been considering a crackdown on patent infringements in March of this year. Apple CEO Tim Cook had warned at the beginning of 2009, “we will not stand for having our IP ripped off and we’ll use whatever weapons we have at our disposal.”
We knew it would not be long before Apple struck back at Motorola and the time has come. Apple’s lawsuits declare patent infringements by Motorola Inc. for six patents. Unsurprisingly, none of these six patents was covered by Motorola’s lawsuit. Apple has contended that the “accused products” are the Motorola Droid, Droid 2, Droid X, Cliq, Cliq XT, Charm 1, Devour i1, Devour A555 and BackFlip.
The complete details of both the lawsuits can be read at the Patently Apple blog.
